Humbug Hunting

Regular readers may have noticed we've begun to expand Humbug! Online to not only look at fallacies (examples of erroneous thinking) but to include some tools for Humbug Hunting. That is, techniques or new ways to looking at something in order to discover another's (or your own) humbug.

Have a look at these tools - The Devil's Advocate, Hume's Razor, Inversion, Occam's Razor, The Socratic Method, Spin Another Hypothesis, and Substitution - which will sharpen your "cognitive scalpel" (sharp metal thinking thingy), on the side bar under the heading Humbug Hunting. (What a mixed metaphor! There's still a few more we are going to add also.)
